You need to motivate yourself to get fit and stay fit. If you lose motivation, you won’t be able to resume your effort. There are a few things you can use to adhere you to your fitness activities. You can join a healthcare program for instance. After joining, you can get a pedometer to count your steps and earn you points as you go along. You can then trade your points for cash. You know that money is an effective motivator. You can also make a friend who can keep you motivated and you can exercise with him.

But if you have not signed up for a healthcare program or you don’t have a friend, you can go for an activity tracking gadget. I would recommend buying Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband. This device is great to keep you on the track. I bought it a while ago and I have been using it for since then. Read on this flex wireless activity wristband review for more.

The popularity of activity trackers is on the rise, and the wrist worn models of these trackers are in the market. The first versions of these trackers were Fuel Bandand and Jawbone Up. As far as popularity goes, both are successful, but Fitbit Flex is special and the company is also reliable.

What can you do with Fitbit Flex track? With this gadget, you can track steps taken, distance traveled and calories burned, to name a few.

DESIGN

where-to-buy-fitbit-flex

The design of the track is very simple, and it looks a lot like a big vitamin. You can see five white LEDs on one end of the gadget. With the LEDs, you come to know how you stack up against the set daily goal. Of the 5 lights, each represents the completion of 20% of the set goal. Based on your needs, you can choose distance, calories or steps.

The Flex tracker is fitted in an elastomer wristband that comes in a variety of colors. You can purchase other bands in different colors, such as navy, tangerine and teal.

You can adjust the strap to suit different types of wrists. It can be done with the 2 pronged metal clasps. As far as my experience is concerned, the design of the strap is not very good. I found it hard to wear it. Apart from this, I found it difficult to press the prongs into the slots.

Fortunately, the Fitbit flex is one of the best tracking gadgets in terms of usability. One the device is on your wrist, you don’t need to take it off before showering or swimming. But you need to take it off for recharging every 5 days or so.

The tracker is small and can be easily removed and connected for recharging. All you have to do is pop the device out of the band to remove it.

Before you go ahead and use the gadget, make sure it is fully charged. To do this, you just need to remove the tracker from your wristband and put it in the USB charging tray came with the purchase.

Now, what you need to do is push the USB wireless dongle into any of the USB ports of your computer. It is a bit odd that a dongle is used for synchronization. It is usually used for Blutetooth or WiFi. The built-in Flex and Bluetooth are used for synchronization.

Once the gadget is fully charged, you can wear it and begin counting your steps. Now, you might be wondering how the gadget shows information about activities. You can use two ways to do it. In the first method, you just need to tap on the upper part of the wristband, which will activate the LEDs. Once you have taken 10,000 steps, the first light will turn on. To customize this number, log into your Fitbit online account and make necessary changes.

for further daily activity information, synchronize your PC or smartphone and sign in to your online account. That is it!

PERFORMACE

I tested the Flex with the Android app on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (shown above) and also with the iOS iPhone app on my iPad mini. The Flex should sync wirelessly with both devices, but I was only successful in syncing with the iPad mini. I was also able to sync using the USB dongle and my Macbook Air.
I own an iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy S3. I tested the device with an Android app on both of my devices. The device is supposed to connect with both of the devices wirelessly. But it didn’t connect with my Android phone. The synchronization succeeded with the USB dongle and

The app has a scrolling main dashboard that shows your daily total of steps, distance traveled, calories burned based on your activity and physical stats which you enter when you create your Fitbit account.
ou can drill down into the individual stats for more info and graphs. In addition to total steps and distance traveled, the Flex also can also track your sleep patterns and your food (calories) and water intake. Although I tried the food and water logging features, they wouldn’t be something I would actually use…. mainly because I’m lazy and forget. Tracking water is easy, but adding the foods you eat during the day is a hassle especially when you don’t eat a lot of pre-processed foods like I do. You can enter your own foods, but this raises the hassle bar even farther.

Tracking your sleep is another useful feature as long as you can remember to put the Flex into sleep tracking mode when you go to bed. You do this by rapidly tapping the Flex. You’ll need to remember to toggle back into activity tracking mode when you wake up too. Using the built in sensors, the Flex can detect how quickly you fall asleep and how many times you wake up during the night.

There’s also an option to set a wake alarm. But unlike the Jawbone Up’s alarm, which tries to wake you when you’re in a light sleep mode, the Flex just vibrates at the time you specify. You can silence the alarm by tapping the top of the wristband.

VALUE

Fitbit-flex-wireless-activity

$99.95 Fitbit Flex is the newest personal fitness tracker in the company’s lineup. While the Flex isn’t without some flaws, the gadget is the most complete product of its kind you can buy. It can track steps taken, sleep quality, and it syncs data wirelessly with PCs and Macs automatically. Comfortable to wear, the Flex can communicate directly with iPhones and select Androidsmartphones, and is water-resistant as well. Going head-to-head with other wristband-style exercise products such as the Nike FuelBand and Jawbone Up, the Flex offers more features and convenience at a lower price than those more expensive devices.
