Data can have a magical effect on your workout performance, and there are devices out there that you can use to monitor your performance while working out. One such device is The Nike+ SportWatch GPS powered by TomTom. With this watch on my wrist, I get motivation to run faster and do my level best. This gadget is full of all the features you need to get the most of your workouts.

The Nike+ SportWatch GPS is pretty stylish, features a big face and a user-friendly app. Of all the similar products, it is the least expensive, which makes this watch an excellent choice.

In this Nike+ SportWatch GPS by TomTom review, I am going to shed some light on the prominent features of this great device. With this amazing GPS-enabled gadget, you can track your pace, steps, time, calories you burned, heart rate and lap/intervals.

Build and Design

Compared to the regular sports watches, the SportWatch GPS is a bit bigger, so it might take some time for you to get used to it.4

You have color options to choose from. If you ask me, I would go for the red one. From the color perspective, the watch looks quite beautiful.

As far as durability is concerned, you can count on this little device. I used it in different weather conditions, such as snow, freezing cold, sunshine and rain. And it pretty much runs perfectly.

The greatest feature of the SportWatch GPS is that you can connect it with your PC. With the USB cable included in the box, connecting it to a computer or laptop is a piece of cake, but you are not bound to use the cord for connectivity as you can slide it into any USB port of your computer.

It is quite easy to operate the watch. On the display screen, you can see the date, time and battery life. All you have to do is tap the symbol on the display and it will light up; this feature is helpful when you are running in the evening.

On the side of the gadget, you have three buttons to get access to the menu. For opening up and navigating the menus, use the upper two buttons. The third one works like the “OK” button.

The menus list stopwatch, records, history, run and clock. From the name of each menu, it is pretty clear what you can do with them.

Tap on the Run before you start running. The SportWatch GPS gives you two options so you can track your distance: the Nike+ Shoe Pod and the GPS feature. For both indoor and outdoor runs, the Shoe Pod is an ideal choice, but GPS works only when you are outside. With the interval or lap feature enabled, you can configure how the gadget goes about tracking your runs. For ease of configuration, you can use the Nike+ Connect app.

For a quick start, all you need to do is press and hold the third button for up to 3 seconds. This will make the satellite icon show up on the screen; once it gets the required number of signals, you are ready to go.

The history menu, as the name suggests, lets you check information about time, space and calories after a particular run. The records menu, on the other hand, gives information about your fastest pace, time and so on.

And yes, it does have the common stopwatch function.

Performance

I suggest that you update the app for fast connectivity to the satellite and more accurate readings. The performance is top-notch once the gadget is inked with the GPSdddss. You can check the stats while you are on the go. You can, of course, use the pause feature at a traffic light.

Since I run outdoors most of time, the Shoe Pod function is not that important to me. It works fine, though. If you don’t own a pair of Nike running shoes, I suggest that you go for a waterproof attachment to protect the Shoe Pod connected to your shoe laces.

I am impressed with the gadget’s long battery life. On a single charge, it lasts about 30 days for me. I never needed to charge it every week.

Usability

No training is required to use the Nike+ Connect software. After downloading and installing the app on your computer, you can instantly use it. All you need to do is dddconnect your gadget to the PC and the app will get the data and update the GPS app.

With the app, you can configure the setting related to your height, weight, gender, age and distance units so you can get as accurate readings as possible.

After you have received the data from the watch, you can upload the data to your online Nike+ account to compare your performance with other community members. You can see the comparison information in the form of graphs, numbers and charts.

Value

At a price tag of $209.1, this gadget costs a bit too much money if you ask me. Compared to its competitors, the watch is more expensive.

The Nike+ SportWatch GPS price is quite reasonable so it won’t hurt your wallet even if you are on a budget. On Amazon, you can buy it for $201.90 with free shipping, of course. The price is less than a lot of other sport watches available on the market. So it is the best buy for your buck. And did I mention it comes with a 1-year limited warranty? Don’t worry you are on the safe side.

THE BOTTOM LINE “For runners looking to keep track of their workouts, the Nike+ SportWatch GPS offers a very attractive and simple solution, but it’s on the pricier side.”

PCMag

Overall rating: 3.5 out of 5.0

Bottom line:

“The Nike+ SportWatch GPS builds all of Nike’s popular running software into a watch with TomTom GPS technology inside, allowing you to track and monitor your workouts from your wrist. But many runners will be better off with an iPod and a Nike+ Sport Kit, which provide much of the same functionality for less money.”
